EcoVadis is een toonaangevende aanbieder van duurzaamheidsratings en -informatie voor bedrijven. De methodologie is gebaseerd op internationale duurzaamheidsstandaarden zoals het Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), het United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) en ISO 26000. In 2023 had EcoVadis een netwerk van meer dan 130.000 beoordeelde bedrijven in ruim 200 inkoopscategorieën en 180 landen. Grote bedrijven en organisaties gebruiken EcoVadis-ratings om duurzaamheidsrisico's in hun toeleveringsketens te monitoren en te beheren, verbeteringen door te voeren en beter geïnformeerde zakelijke beslissingen te nemen.
Het EcoVadis-model biedt voordelen voor zowel inkopers als leveranciers. Het geeft beoordeelde bedrijven een beter inzicht in hun duurzaamheidsmanagementsysteem en stelt hen in staat hun prestaties te vergelijken met branchegenoten. Het is ook eenvoudig om scores te delen met derden, wat de toegang tot kapitaal, klanten en talent vergemakkelijkt. Voor inkopers zijn de voordelen onder meer een betere zichtbaarheid van de toeleveringsketen, kosteneffectievere duurzaamheidsbeoordelingen en efficiëntere programma's voor leveranciersbetrokkenheid. Dit kan een solide basis bieden voor deelname aan branchenetwerken.
Een organisatie kan door een leverancier worden gevraagd om een EcoVadis-assessment uit te voeren, of kan zelf besluiten er een uit te voeren. In beide gevallen moet de organisatie zich eerst online registreren via het EcoVadis-platform. EcoVadis wijst vervolgens een sectorspecifieke vragenlijst toe die de milieu-, sociale en ethische impact van de organisatie behandelt. Hierbij moeten verschillende ondersteunende documenten worden ingediend. De verstrekte informatie wordt vervolgens door EcoVadis geanalyseerd om een scorekaart te produceren. Dit duurt gemiddeld 6 tot 8 weken en de scorekaarten, die met leveranciers kunnen worden gedeeld, zijn 12 maanden geldig.
De duur van het proces hangt af van hoe lang het toegewezen team nodig heeft om de relevante documentatie te verzamelen. Zodra de vragenlijst is geopend, geeft EcoVadis bedrijven drie weken de tijd om deze in te vullen. Het is niet ongewoon dat bedrijven EcoVadis vragen om de deadline te verlengen. Nadat een organisatie de vragenlijst heeft ingediend, duurt het evaluatieproces (fase van deskundigenanalyse) gemiddeld 6 tot 8 weken. EcoVadis-scorekaarten en -medailles zijn 12 maanden geldig.
