Case study
Butternut Box: B Corp assessment and a sustainability roadmap

The Challenge
Butternut Box had held B Corp certification since 2022, recertifying on the old standards in 2025. When they made the decision to recertify again on the new B-Lab standards in order to comply with the new EU-ECGT Directive entering into force in September 2026, they realised they would need some support. With 1,000+ pages of updated requirements across seven impact areas, the company needed expert guidance to map the gaps and understand the best way to close them.
Project Objectives
01
Understand exactly where Butternut Box stood against the new B-Lab standards, and what it would take to meet them.
02
Close the priority gaps: materiality assessment, human rights policy, JEDI action plan and ensure Butternut Box’s public sustainability presence was in compliance with the new B-Lab requirements.
03
Prepare the team to face a rigorous full-day certification audit with full confidence in their documentation and evidence.
