Emissions outside of your building: Dutch sleep retailer’s success story
The Challenge
The client needed a practical way to manage emissions data and meet sustainability reporting requirements without overwhelming their internal teams.
Project Objectives
01
Build a full carbon baseline that reflects the actual emission profile of a retail business, including Scope 3 categories specific to the sector.
02
Model the current trajectory to understand where emissions are heading without intervention, and identify the levers that change the path.
03
Create a live decarbonisation model that leadership can use to track progress as the programme develops.
Nexio Projects' solutions
01
Decarbonisation report
A full carbon baseline report mapping Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions using a retail-specific methodology. Scope 3 categories identified, sized and prioritised by materiality to the business: upstream purchased goods, logistics, store energy, product end-of-life.
02
Decarbonisation model
An Excel-based scenario tool mapping current emission trajectories by scope and category, with reduction pathways modelled against identified decarbonisation levers. Built for ongoing internal use, with the model continuing to be updated as new data is added.
03
Scenario and lever analysis
Priority decarbonisation levers identified with indicative impact: supply chain engagement, logistics optimisation, product portfolio decisions, store energy transition. Each lever assessed for impact and feasibility within the retail operating model.
Key Outcomes
The client has a sustainability programme that continues to cater for ongoing CSRD reporting needs, as well as investor and customer requirements for a credible climate plan grounded in real data.

Full carbon baseline mapped for the first time
Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions quantified across the full retail value chain. Scope 3 categories specific to retail identified and sized.

Decarbonisation trajectory modelled
Current trajectory compared against reduction scenarios. Priority levers identified by emissions impact and commercial feasibility. Leadership can see what doing nothing looks like alongside what taking action looks like.

Live decarbonisation model operational
The model was updated in June 2026, five months after the initial report. It keeps moving as new data arrives. Progress against targets is trackable in real time. The programme doesn't end when the report is delivered.

CSRD climate disclosure foundation in place
The quantified baseline and decarbonisation plan provide the evidence base for ESRS E1 disclosure. The company can now engage with its reporting obligation with specific numbers.
